About Vista Hermosa

The most recent addition to our Vista Living Care homes is our small and cozy bungalow located in historical Santa Fe with the perfect setting for our innovative, nonclinical approach to elder care. Vista Hermosa specializes in helping frail, non- to mild-dementia residents needing day-to-day care and reminders. Our team of professionals creates an intentional, welcoming environment and an insurmountable love for the 14 elders inside.

Thoughts from our team
at Hermosa:

Our small home excels at creating a nurturing, joyful place for elders to have the help they need to thrive each day.

Our small home excels at creating a nurturing, joyful place for elders to have the help they need to thrive each day. Vista Hermosa is able to embrace clinical care for frail elders, provide exceptional palliative care while being a home where life is well lived. We are able to meet elders where they are as individuals at all phases of life. Our elders laugh, cook, dance, and are loved.
You could be greeted by two very happy dogs, many live houseplants, chirping birds, fat goldfish, happy elders, and smiling staff.  Vista Hermosa is the house that intention, love, and commitment built.

Vista Hermosa embraces clinical care for frail elders and provides exceptional palliative care while being a home where life is well lived.

Vista Hermosa Staff

Picture
Amanda Aragon, Executive Director lives in a small town called Velarde which is located in Northern New Mexico. She enjoys spending my time with her husband Arturo, stepson Angel who is 11 years old and her daughter Analicia who is 2 years old. A couple of hobbies that she enjoys are camping with her loved ones and playing with her kids. She has worked with the elderly community since she was 18 years old and cannot imagine herself doing anything else. She believes our elders are our roots that have helped pave our future and that we owe it to our elders to care for them. She aspires to become a good leader and to strive to do her best to ensure the happiness of our elders, staff, and families at Vista Hermosa.

Dolores Avalos, Assistant Executive Director also known as Lolis originated in Mexico, where her humble family worked their way to a better future. She moved to Santa Fe, NM at the age of seven, where she grew up and continues to live today. Dolores graduated high school in 2017, and then went on to receive a phlebotomy certification and become a Licensed Nursing Assistant. She is currently in the process of becoming a licensed nurse, where she can put her years of experience in the health field to good use. She enjoys spending time with her family - they mean everything to her. She also enjoys nature and any form of community service. She considers herself a kind, hard-working person, who is dedicated and determined to help others.

Ruth Dennis, Senior Director of Social Services and Education, is the heart of Sierra Vista.  She has provided emotional support and education for a myriad of families, professionals, colleges, and universities eager to learn about all forms of dementia, specifically Alzheimer's, and about those facing memory challenges. She ensures that our elders' lives are rich and our homes are filled with art, music, dance, books, laughter and wholesome food. To name a few, Ms. Dennis, during her tenure with Vista Living Communities, has shared her expertise with the New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the New Mexico Conference on Aging, and the Dementia Arts Conference, and has served as a panelist for the Self-Care Revolution via Santa Fe Soul, and the Christus St. Vincent palliative care conferences. She is also a founding member of the “Community at Residence” through the Museums of New Mexico, Site Santa Fe, and the Santa Fe Opera. Ruth has spoken at numerous radio shows, including NPR’s Fresh Air, and juried traveling national art exhibitions. Ms. Dennis’s work history has also included work with National Endowment for the Arts--funded grants for the Bemis Foundation and the MexiArts Grant. Ruth implements creativity and healing programs for gifted and at-risk children, recovery programs, and transitional homes that serve homeless and mentally ill adults, and elders facing dementia. In 2016, Ruth’s biography was selected from countless applications from around the world to present at the Eden Alternative International Conference, which was held in Little Rock, Arkansas, and presented at the National Conference of American Art Therapists in 2017.  Ruth fuses her life as a painter, cook, gardener, and most of all, sister and primary caregiver to her brother, Morgan, who has Down syndrome. Morgan is her hero and will always be her greatest teacher.

Lizabeth Rivera, RN
Lizabeth was born in Santa fe, NM and raised in Ribera, NM.  As she grew up she always had a strong passion to be a nurse. Her career in health care began more than 20 years ago. She worked her way up from a nursing assistant to a Licensed Practical Nurse and now to a Registered Nurse. As a nurse she has had the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives and advocate for them. She has worked in Longterm Care, behavioral health, correctional nursing, hospice, ENT (allergy) and dementia facilities. She notes that a day as a nurse is never the same, throughout the past 20 years, she has learned many skills, and looks forward to learning many more.
