Here at Vista Living Care, we laugh! we cook! we dance!
Each month we recognize a facility for exceptional food and nutritional focus by awarding them with the WE COOK! HONORS AWARD. The first award of the year goes to The Arbors! The Arbors focus daily on high quality food and presentation and they really shined in January. Congratulations to Michael Manzanares and the whole team at the Arbors for their awesome job. Breaking bread with friends, family and colleagues is a critical part of the culture at Vista Living Care deeply rooted from the family of our founders and we are so happy that we can keep these traditions alive.

Our three homes each had a wonderful holiday party to celebrate with their elders. Family and friends gathered at each location and enjoyed an evening full of fun and love. Each party had hand-prepared northern New Mexican food, like enchiladas, tamales, chile, and much more! Along with this, there were tables filled with desserts ranging from biscochitos to pies, and cakes, and everything in between. The homes were decorated beautifully, with garland, ribbons, ornaments, bells, and lights. The elders were all dressed up in their finest holiday outfits and enjoyed the live mariachi music and performers. Families came from near and far to spend quality time with their beloved elders, and many of them even danced around to the music! Thank you so much for everyone who visited and spent time within our homes this holiday season, it means the world to our elders. Also, a huge thank you to all of our caregivers, directors, and staff for coming together and decorating, cooking, and hosting a wonderful evening for all to enjoy. Ruth Dennis and Yolanda Rodriguez from Vista Hermosa made a special trip to Sweeny Elementary in Santa Fe to read to the students. It was a fun experience for everyone involved and Ruth and Yolanda can't wait to do it again!
The Arbors had a wonderful celebration for all the elders and their families!
There was tons of beautifully prepared food and hand-crafted desserts that filled the hearts and stomachs of all the guests. The lunch was accompanied by music and entertainment provided by the awesome Jazz Trio that helped make the lunch extra special. Thank you to all the friends and family who came and spent Thanksgiving lunch with us, it meant so much to each of the elders. Also, we would like to show our appreciation to all of our staff, caregivers, and team for all their hard work and preparation for this amazing holiday celebration. You guys are the best! The elders at Vista Hermosa had a great time creating collages from newspapers and magazines. The caregivers and staff helped the elders bring their creativity to life! It was a wonderful afternoon filled with coloring, collaboration, and collages. Our elders love to do hands-on activities so we try to incorporate them into our days as much as possible.
So much fun this Halloween! Each home had a Halloween party and invited children and families to come trick-or-treating and to celebrate with the elders. The staff worked together to make delicious meals and treats that got everyone in the spooky spirit. The elders had so much fun handing out candy to all the children and dressing up in their costumes!
Not only was there delicious food and beautiful decorations, there was a costume contest, dancing, singing, and a whole lot laughs. Thank you to our wonderful staff for making this Halloween extra special for everyone! Our awesome chef, Micheal Manzanares, from the Arbors just participated in the annual Men Who Cook fundraiser! Congrats!! Velma Arellano, Creator and Ruth Dennis, Senior Social Services Director/Author are celebrating twenty years working together! They met in 1999 and embarked onto a journey in which New Mexico had never seen before. They created a state-of-the-art, stand alone, Alzheimer’s and Dementia focused facility. They created it with an intention to provide excellent, specialized care to a community that very much needed it. Over the years Vista Living Care has grown and expanded with two locations in Santa Fe, and one in Las Cruces. After all this time, Velma and Ruth are just as passionate about providing intentional care as the day they met in 1999.

At our three homes we love to get everyone involved when preparing meals. Our Elders enjoy having responsibility and being part of the process of planning and prepping our home cooked meals. Our Elders, caregivers, and even our Executive Directors get involved in putting love and care into the food that they serve. The open feel of the kitchen is welcoming and inviting, and gives everyone a sense of being at home in their own kitchen. The delicious smells of food fill the air each day and it truly feels like a loving home.
Wow, 20 years already! Vista Living Care just celebrated twenty years of providing excellent, loving care for their elders.
The staff, elders, children of caregivers, friends, and family came together to celebrate the release of Mindful Dementia Care, a book written by our very own Ruth Dennis. The party was held in the beautiful outdoor area of Vista Hermosa, one of our two homes in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had many special guests in attendance including Luke Nachtrab, the owner of Vista Living Care, and his sweet family. Luke's two daughters can be seen in the photos dancing with some of our elders, and his son hitting a pinata. In addition to comments on their 20 year history and Mindful Dementia Care, Luke thanked the care partners for their loving work sharing that "you are the heartbeat of the company". Also, Martha performed her very special award winning song "Fade Away", written about her mother-in-law Sylvia who lives in our Sierra Vista home. The party was filled with love, laughter, live music, and even a pinata filled with candy! Everyone enjoyed homemade appetizers that were prepared and planned by our lovely caregivers, staff, and Executive Directors. Ruth Dennis read a moving passage from her book. To get your own copy of Mindful Dementia Care, click the button below. Vista Hermosa & Sierra Vista aren't only homes to our elders, but also home to many unique pets! Along with our turtles, chickens, and birds, we are also home to a few rambunctious goats and a very sweet dog. These pets bring lots of joy and excitement to each home and give the elders a sense of responsibility as they care for the pets each day.
The National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP released a joint study in 2015 that found 43.5 million people in the United States were caregivers; of those, 33 million were caring for other adults, and 6.8 million were caring for both children and adults. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5.7 million people face Alzheimer’s disease, and 16.1 million people provide unpaid care for them, which is valued at more than $232 billion per year. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 70 percent of all adults in the United States over the age of 65 will need hands-on care in their lifetimes, and the World Health Organization predicts that the number of people needing daily hands-on care will triple by 2050.
